CLEANING + TIDYING YOUR HOUSE IS SO IMPORTANT!

So does tidying up even matter?

I mean, some days you don’t even shower or change your clothes. (Oh come on, admit it.)

Well, in the words of Marie Kondo, best-selling author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up:

“The space in which we live should be for the person we are becoming now, not for the person we were in the past.”

Well, the same goes for the space in which you live and work.

In other words, the things you see each and every day impact your success because they impact your personal energy.

So let’s do some tidying up.

The reason you have piles is not that you’re lazy. It’s because these random items do not have a place to go or you have no idea when to start.

Once you take the time to create a place for these then you can sort your life out much faster. Rather than beat yourself up for not getting shit done and not being organized, try this.

Pick one day of the week and make a list of things that you must tidy up. No excuses, it’s like gospel, or be prepared to reap the wrath of God.

So for each of those days pick a task and focus on solely that.

Here are some examples of things that are likely cluttering your space, physically and, mentally:

1. Your Closet

Look if you haven’t worn it in the last year you are not going to. Start going through your closet and make piles (in this case it’s ok). One to give away to charity, one pile for garbage, and one pile for a friend or friends. Then bag them up. Don’t second-guess your choices and start looking fondly at that cheerleading outfit from 1994. Get rid of it!!

It’s so liberating when you see a clean organized closet. It takes out the overwhelm out of starting your day.

2. Your Kitchen Cupboards

I am sure that like me, some of you have a junk-drawer. However, I can bet that the junk has taken over the drawer. Tackle that bitch like your life depends on it!

Throw out old restaurant menus. Old tape, anything that looks like its past its expiry date or really is just plain useless. Then move on to the kitchen cupboards.

Did you know that canned food actually have an expiration date? Color me stupid. I did not. And when I started cleaning my own cupboards, I was shocked at how old some stuff was. Just like your closet, do the same thing. Make a pile for things that must be thrown out and a pile for donation to the local food bank. Once those are sorted, arrange the cupboards into some sort of system. Veggies on one shelf, and sauces on another. You get it right?

Next, let’s tackle the Tupperware drawer. Let’s be honest here – how many of you have Tupperware that missing a lid or some piece?

GET RID OF IT!!!!

3. Your Office/Business Space

If you work from home the best gift you can give yourself is the gift of organization. Clean your actual space. Declutter it. Shred files that no longer are relevant. Clean up your desktop.

Once you do that, I can guarantee that when you walk into your office no task will seem too big or too overwhelming.

These are just a few main places that you should focus your energy on. Don’t forget your yard, your garage, and even your mind.

There is nothing more satisfying than an organized place and mind.

Now go do it. What are you waiting for?

Much Love,

Maria
